What if – Google Web Services Stopped Being Free
At what point does the burden of free get too large for even Google to bear?

Google’s introduction of its Chrome Operating System is causing a lot of debate in the high-tech sector, with some pundits mulling whether Google has taken its free software model to the edge in its attempt to battle Microsoft. eWEEK asks readers what they would pay for Web services the thrist of Google’s cloud computing efforts.

Does Google dare charge us for the things it offered us free for years? That breaks the contract doesn’t it? Didn’t we, by logging into Google Accounts, agree to let Google serve us ads for the ability to use Web services? That was the deal implicit in us using Gmail, et al, right?

The problem with free is that if you offer Web services free from the start, no price point looks attractive thereafter. Consumers feel ill used, slighted and taken for a ride. Even if consumers did agree to pay they would call for higher quality of service than Google currently provides and the company still regularly has outages that don’t discriminate between Google’s consumers and it’s paying customers.

No matter how important Google Web services have become to their users, Google is stuck with free. When you start with free and become really successful with it, you get stuck with free.

Needless to say, Google is the king of all search engines. When thousands of dot.com business groups have given up on dot.com then how Google still manages to be the master of all search engines. I Guess the key lies in the pursuit of innovation in the challenging till

I have noticed that mostly people are not aware of the number of services Google offers except Google Search Engine,G-Talk,Google Video or Gmail. I would like to list Useful Google services .

Google Earth –

Google Earth it’s a program that was earlier known as “Earth Viewer”. It was acquired by Google in 2004 from the founder “Keyhole, Inc” The program is supported by the satellite images, GIS 3D Globe and aerial photography.

AdSense –

It’s operated by Google to operate advertisement application. Google Adsense enables site owners to display text, video and image advertisement. The advertisement is controlled by Google where it generates the percentage of revenue based on per – impression or on per click criteria.

AdWords –

Google’s flagship advertising product and main source of revenue. AdWords offers pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and site-targeted advertising for both text and banner ads. The AdWords program includes local, national, and international distribution. Google’s text advertisements are short, consisting of one title line and two content text lines. Image ads can be one of several different Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) standard sizes.-

Google Analytics -

It’s a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Google Analytics main highlight is that the product is aimed at marketers as opposed to webmasters and technologists from which the industry of web analytics originally grew.

GA can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click networks, email marketing and digital collateral such as links within PDF documents.

Android Market -

Google Apps –

Google Apps is a service from Google for using custom domain names with several Google products. It features several Web applications with similar functionality to traditional office suites, including: Gmail, Google Calendar, Talk, Docs and Sites.)

Blogger -

Blogger is a free blog publishing tool from Google for easily sharing your thoughts with the world. Blogger makes it simple to post text, photos and video.

Google Calender -

Google Checkout Merchant -

Google Talk (GTalk) is a Windows and web-based application for voice over internet protocol (VOIP) and instant messaging, offered by Google.

GrandCentral -

GrandCentral is a free Google-owned Internet service that uses VoIP to link customers’ phone numbers together. The service is currently in private beta, and no new invitations have been sent out since March 14, 2007.

Google Groups -

Google Groups is a free service from Google where groups of people have discussions about common interests. Internet users can find discussion groups – groups.google.com

Google Health -

Google Health is a personal health information centralization service (sometimes known as personal health record services) by Google. The service allows Google users to volunteer their health records — either manually or by logging into their accounts at partnered health services providers — into the Google Health system, thereby merging potentially separate health records into one centralized Google Health profile. Google News is an automated news aggregator provided by Google Inc. The initial idea, StoryRank—related to Google’s PageRank formula—was developed by Krishna Bharat in 2001, the Principal Research Scientist of Google.

Orkut –

Orkut is a social networking service which is run by Google and named after its creator, an employee of Google – Orkut Büyükkökten. The service states that it was designed to help users meet new friends and maintain existing relationships

Picasa -

Picasa is a software application for organizing and editing digital photos, originally created by Idealab and now owned by Google

Google Sites -

It’s a structured wiki offered by Google as part of Google Apps. Google Sites was launched on February 28, 2008 and is currently in beta stage. It replaces Google Page Creator, Google’s previous webpage creation service.

SketchUp -

It’s a 3D modeling program designed for architects, civil engineers, filmmakers, game developers, and related professions. It also includes features to facilitate the placement of models in Google Earth. Sketchup was designed to be more intuitive, flexible, and easier to use than other 3D CAD programs.

Google Video -

Google Video is a free video sharing website and also a video service from Google that allows anyone to upload video clips to Google’s web servers as well as make their own media available free of charge; some videos are also offered for sale through the Google Video .

A Web search engine is a search engine designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in newsbooks, databases, or open directories. Unlike Web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.,

YouTube –

YouTube, LLC is a video sharing website where users can upload, view and share video clips. YouTube was created in February 2005 by three former PayPal employees. The San Bruno-based service uses Adobe Flash Video technology to display a wide variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips and music videos, as well as amateur content such as videoblogging and short original videos.

I recently went to a site to post some of my views about obama. So in order to post a comment, first you need to register to the site by signing up. And the kind of fields a commentator needs to fill can drive anyone away from the website. Just a message for all the website owners….Don’t be exasperating! You just lost one of the hundreds readers. Nobody has that much time to go through unnecessary information. Make it simple and reader friendly! Sigh
