Is Barack Obama slowly sliding into the position of Bush administration on Guantanamo Bay

torture techniques at guantanamo bay

Recently, there has been some kind of blazing war going on between Nancy Pelosi and the CIA. Nancy Pelosi has accused the CIA of lying on the fact that she was briefed about the torture techniques for the terrorists groups carried out in Guantanamo Bay. Obviously she refutes this claim by the CIA.

That makes me think on what we the people actually think about the whole scenerio. Without any doubt the terrorists go through severe torture techniques in Guantanamo Bay. In the past at several occasions, the human rights organization has criticized the bush government defending the torture techniques used on the criminals. But the fact remains “Geneva Convention” clause is only applicable for uniformed soldiers. Therefore, there were no strong actions which were taken against the torture techniques that were being carried out at Guantanamo Bay.

But things seemed to change when Barrack Obama claimed and passed an order that Guantanamo Bay will be shut down in a year or so. That very time I had certain qualms about his claims. There are many reasons attached to it that why Guantanamo should not be closed or rather can’t be closed. So are we actually witnessing Obama smoothly gliding into the shoes of Ex Bush Administration?

The utmost important point that comes to everybody’s mind is the national security. No government will take any responsibility and loose their votes by issuing something that can endanger the security of their citizen. Every time we talk about the detention of terrorists the same question pops up. Now what’s the next step? When the government captures any kind of terrorists, either the detainee should be produced to the court and the proceeding should take a brief amount of time to declare the final decision. Later on, either the detainee should be hanged to death or should be released based on the whole situation.

Mumbai Terrorists Attacks (A Wake-Up Call For The Security System)

mumbai attacks targeting foreigners

• The main topic of discussion everywhere seems to be “About the terrorists attacks in Mumbai” and what exactly “The motive of the terrorists groups in Mumbai”. I have been keeping a constant watch on the news related to the Mumbai attacks. I was also interested in knowing that what are the demands of the terrorists groups?

• It’s an obvious question in everybody’s mind that what’s the motive of these terrorists groups? What exactly they want to convey by taking hundreds of hostages and killing innocent civilians in Mumbai? Startlingly, there is one big difference between the earlier terrorists attacks in India is that those people who got killed or are hostages are foreigners from the US or UK.

• Based on what I have been witnessing on the news channels shows that the terrorists groups wants to target UK and the US citizens also. One of the captured hostages who were rescued later said that “the terrorists groups were focusing on Britons and Americans. In one incident one of the terrorists interrogated asking “where are you from” he said I am from Italy, that’s why he was not hurt by the terrorists.

security system of terrorists groups

One question which is bothering me is that aren’t there any security checks in the restaurants, especially these reputed 5-star like The Taj Mahal and Oberoi Hotels. The media and the Marine Commandos conference have been making several statements like. The terrorists groups were aware of every nook and corner of the Taj hotel. They studied the layout of the hotel carefully prior to executing the attack. They are carrying enough ammunitions and fire guns.Their tactic was very clear, their plan was well structured.

The point on which I am not clear is were they living in the hotel. Secondly, how come they were well aware of the structure of the The Taj Hotel if they were not living their before? Now that leaves me with one question. Was there any inside connections with The Taj staff.

I haven’t seen any of the news that states that the FBI is interrogating the staff to clear any possibility of any kind of connection between the Taj Workers and the terrorists groups. One thing I am very much clear on is that the terrorists attacks in Mumbai is fulfilling at least one motive of the terrorists groups is to get international media attention.

innocent kids dieing

  • First of all it’s not a review of the movie. It’s more about realization of few important thoughts which ‘We The People” needs to understand.
  • The movie was released in way back 2004. I recently watched it and found a masterpiece. The movie is based on a book by S. Hussein Zaidi. I remember when the movie was released I was reluctant to watch it because it was like “re- living the most horrendous moments of 1993 blasts”
  • The film has depicted some of the facts in a nerve wrecking way. Some of the dialogues have so much deep meaning to it. I still remember 1993 Mumai Blasts, though I was a kid.
  • But still you can comprehend when your country goes through a disastrous and painful incident. It left the whole country numb. Needless to say, it’s a contentious issue to portrait.
  • The issue required the director and the writer – to bring out the emotions and pain of both the Muslims and Hindus. One aspect of the movie represents the very fact on how terrorists groups take advantage of jobless people.

1993 mumbai blasts

  • When an individual goes through tough times where they dont have any funds to even survive. Sometimes situations make them fragile and as a result anyone can brainwash their mind. Especially, for young people who become vulnerable and look for options that can provide them financial help for their family.
  • All the characters of the movie have given an outstanding performance. The writers and the director of the movie have studied the incidents before the the blasts when communal riots happened and also the aftermath of the blasts.
  • The view point of Hindu’s religious communities and Muslim immigrants are shared without any bias feeling. The “Babri Masjid” incident and the brutal killings of thousands of innocent civilians make you numb.
  • One incident in the movie which says it all is when one of the terrorists gets arrested and then starts defending his actions by saying that it’s a “jihad” i.e the power of God have influenced us to commit the attack against Hindu’s. Then Kay Kay menon who is the inspector in the movie says. If Allah was with you then you would never have got caught.

It’ so true, as it’s a fact that some of the Muslim terrorists groups shield themselves by labeling their attacks as “Jihad”.

  • One of the main reason of the communal riots is because the political parties also benefit from it. Therefore, they don’t do anything to gain a control on the whole situation. Actually, we can’t solely blame anyone for the riots. There are many factors that needz to be studied. For example:-
  • Some people have a belief that whatever is happening is justified from their point of view. Due to the fact that in the past either of the party (hindus or muslims) faced injustice. ( Both muslims and hindus have their justifications and stories when they suffered). Whenever I talk abou this with anyone – all they come up with is ” They also did this n dat in the past” So it has become a kind of revenge on other religionz.
  • Second of all, there are certain section of people ( both muslim and hindus) who literally oppose the attacks against any religion but they are too afraid to come forward and share their opinions.
  • For instance, muslims are being treated with suspicion everywhere, whether its in India or Abroad. Not all muslims are terrorists and there are some genuine muslims who are peacemakers/peacekeepers.
  • But the point is “every terrorists always turn out to be a muslim”, that’s why muslims always fall in the category of mistrust. And “We the People” you and me are helpless every time we witness some or the other kind of religious violence. Sometimes, I feel remorseful for Muslims that they get unfaur treatment.
